Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information LectureParse collects when you use our website and services, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the choices you have. It applies to everything under lectureparse.com — the marketing site, the app, and the lessons, summaries, and cheatsheets generated from your documents.

We’ve tried to write it the way we’d want to read it: specific, honest, and without legal filler. If anything is unclear, email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and profile picture. If you sign in with Google, we receive these from your Google account. Sign-in is handled by Clerk, our authentication provider — we never see or store your password.

Your documents. The lecture slides, PDFs, and other files you upload, along with the lessons, summaries, cheatsheets, and chat conversations generated from them.

Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We keep only what we need to manage your subscription: your plan, billing status, and payment history.

Usage data. How you interact with the product — pages visited, features used, device and browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. We use this to understand what’s working and fix what isn’t.

Communications. Messages you send us through the contact form, feedback widget, or email.

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide the service — process your documents, generate lessons and study materials, and sync them across your devices
• Keep your account secure and authenticate you when you sign in
• Process subscriptions and send billing-related emails
• Understand how the product is used so we can improve it
• Respond to your questions, feedback, and support requests
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show ads.

LectureParse is built on AI. When you upload a document or use features like lessons, summaries, cheatsheets, or chat, the relevant content is sent to our AI providers — currently Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI — to generate the output you asked for.

Your uploaded content remains yours. We process it solely to provide the service to you — we don’t use it to train models of our own, and we don’t share it with other users.

We share information only with the service providers we rely on to run LectureParse, each limited to what they need for their role:

Beyond these providers, we disclose information only if you ask us to, if the law requires it, or if it’s necessary to protect the rights and safety of LectureParse and its users.

Your documents are stored on Amazon S3 and all data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Access to production systems is restricted, and authentication is delegated to Clerk so credentials are handled by a dedicated security-focused provider rather than our own servers.

No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t promise otherwise — but if we ever discover a breach affecting your personal information, we’ll notify you promptly and tell you what happened and what we’re doing about it.

We keep your account information and documents for as long as your account is active — that’s what lets your library, lessons, and progress persist between sessions.

If you delete a document, it’s removed from your library and queued for deletion from our storage. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information and uploaded content, except for records we must keep for legal, billing, or security reasons (for example, payment records retained for tax compliance). Residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period before being purged.

Regardless of where you live, you can always:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate account information (most of it directly in Settings)
• Delete individual documents or your entire account
• Export your data in a portable format
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data

Depending on your jurisdiction (for example, under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California), some of these are legal rights with formal processes attached. To exercise any of them, email support@lectureparse.com — we respond to every request and don’t charge for them.

We use a small number of cookies:

• Essential cookies that keep you signed in and secure your session. The service doesn’t work without these.
• Preference cookies that remember settings like light or dark mode.
• Analytics via PostHog, which helps us see which features are used and where people get stuck.

We don’t use advertising cookies or cross-site trackers. You can block cookies in your browser settings, though blocking essential cookies will prevent you from staying signed in.

Our service providers operate infrastructure in multiple countries, which means your information may be processed outside the country you live in. Wherever it’s processed, it’s protected by this policy and by our agreements with those providers, which include appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

LectureParse is built for university and college students and is not intended for children under 13 (or the higher minimum age in your jurisdiction). We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.

We’ll update this policy as the product and the law evolve. For material changes — anything that meaningfully affects how your data is handled — we’ll notify you by email or in the app before the change takes effect. The “last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version.
